Bio:

Dr. Shaked, Director, PENN Transplant Center is a nationally recognized leader in the field of transplantation. For many years, Dr. Shaked’s practice has focused on the surgical treatment of liver and hepatobiliary diseases. He is one of the most experienced surgeons in the country in adult and pediatric liver transplantation, and has a special interest in hepatobiliary malignancy, as well as biliary reconstruction.

Dr. Shaked's academic record is reflected by his achievements in laboratory research and support for clinical science investigation. His laboratory efforts are focused on the application of genomic expression in the monitoring human donor and recipient proinflammatory and alloimmune response in the setting of organ transplantation. These studies examine molecular signatures that may be used to diagnose and predict the development of rejection and graft in liver transplantation, examine the interrelations between immunosuppression and hepatitis C recurrence, and to determine pattern of tolerance. These studies are supported by continuous NIH findings for the last 15 years. He published over 150 manuscripts and serves as member of editorial boards of "Transplantation" and "Liver Transplantation".

On the national level, Dr. Shaked 's activities include his serving as the President of the ASTS, testimony to Congress regarding transplant issues, and his participation in advisory committees to the National Institute of Health.
