The ITN renewal application for the 2014-2021 era is finished, submitted to the NIH on March 7th. Thanks to the many members of the ITN community—staff, investigators and advisors—who contributed their ideas and time to the writing. This process involved reviewing the mission and activities of the ITN, and is useful for reminding us of the extraordinary opportunity we have been given to create high impact trials that address huge unmet medical needs. The changes we have made over the last few years to increase our efficiencies, engage a broad range of individuals and focus our efforts on specific tolerance approaches are all articulated in the renewal proposal, and form a foundation on which to continue to embrace changes that make us a successful organization.
A copy of the renewal application will be available on the Member Portal, which I encourage you all to peruse when you have some time. We do not expect to hear anything about the review of this application for several months, and will keep ITN staff updated as information becomes available. In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact Mary Roy, ITN Administrator, directly at mroy@immunetolerance.org or (206) 342-6512.
Additionally, many of you might be wondering about the sequestration and how federal budget cuts might impact the ITN overall. We have not received notification of any reduction to our current or requested funding, but we are following the process closely. We are developing contingency plans with budgeting considerations to address changes due to the sequestration, if needed.
